What we do with
your information.

We collect only what we need to help you, we do not sell it, and we do not hand it to anyone for marketing.

Last updated July 2026.

The short version

We collect only what we need to help you or to work with you, we do not sell it, and we do not hand it to anyone for marketing. If you ever want to know what we have about you, ask and we will tell you.

What we collect

  • Contact information you give us: name, phone number, email address, and mailing or service address.
  • Information about your request: what you need help with, and details about your household or property that are relevant to doing the work safely and determining eligibility.
  • Volunteer and partner information: trade, licensing, business name, availability, and background check results where screening applies.
  • Donation information: name, contact details, and gift amount. Card and bank details are handled by our payment processor and never stored by us.
  • Basic website data: standard server logs, and aggregate analytics through Google Analytics that tell us how many people visit which pages and which links they use. See "Cookies and analytics" below for exactly how that is configured and how to turn it off.

How we use it

  • To respond to your request, determine eligibility, and schedule and complete the work.
  • To coordinate the volunteers and partner tradespeople assigned to your job. They receive only what they need to do the work and reach you.
  • To send you messages about your own request: scheduling, confirmations, and follow-up.
  • To acknowledge donations and meet our record keeping and reporting obligations as a nonprofit.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

We also do not use your information to market real estate services, and no one working with us may use a job to solicit you. If that ever happens, tell us directly and we will handle it.

Who we share it with

Only in these situations:

  • Volunteers and partner contractors assigned to your job, limited to what they need.
  • Service providers that run our email, messaging, payment processing, and background checks, and only so they can perform that service for us.
  • When the law requires it, or when someone's safety is at immediate risk.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits, see which pages people actually read, and see how many people go on to ask for help, volunteer, or give. That is how we tell whether this site is doing its job, and tracking it is a requirement of the free advertising program Google offers nonprofits.

We have configured it in the narrowest way it allows:

  • Advertising features are off. Google Signals and ad personalization are disabled, so your visit is not used to build an advertising profile or follow you around other sites.
  • Your IP address is anonymized before it is recorded.
  • We do not sell or share this data, and we do not use it to target anyone with advertising.
  • We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, our analytics never loads. Nothing is recorded at all.

That last point is why there is no cookie banner on this site. Rather than ask you to dismiss a popup, we just do not track anyone whose browser says not to. You can also block analytics cookies in your browser settings, and everything here works exactly the same either way.

Google's own handling of what it receives is described in their privacy policy.

Text messages

If you give us your phone number and agree to be texted, we may send you messages about your request: scheduling, confirmations, and follow-up. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your request; we will simply reach you another way. Full details are in our terms.

How long we keep it

We keep records of the work we do as long as we need them for our nonprofit reporting obligations, and no longer than necessary. If you want your information deleted, ask us and we will delete what we are not legally required to keep.

Your choices

  • Ask us what information we hold about you, and we will tell you.
  • Ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Opt out of text messages by replying STOP, or of email by telling us.
  • California residents have additional rights under state privacy law. Ask and we will honor them.

Children

Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Questions, requests, or concerns about your information go to hello@theneighborhoodcrew.org, or write to us at 3180 University Ave #210, San Diego, CA 92104.
